Construction is Habitat's most popular volunteer opportunity. Volunteering on a job site is a great way to give back, learn new skills and know that you have built not just a house, but a home for a deserving family.

For Beginning Volunteers Be a Crew Member!
Join other Habitat volunteers on-site to complete every task from framing to roofing to installing kitchen counter tops. You will learn new skills, meet our partner families and enjoy the fellowship that has become a hallmark of the Habitat volunteer experience!
For Experienced Volunteers
Be a Crew Leader!
We can always use volunteers who are experienced in one or more aspects of home construction. Anyone from general contractors to at-home do-it-yourselfers can lead volunteers in a construction project!

Be a Site Supervisor!
Do you have experience in home building? Do you have a positive attitude and a willingness to work with volunteers? Are you looking for a volunteer experience that will give you personal and/or professional satisfaction? Then you could be our next Site Supervisor! Giving a day of service is a great way to build teamwork and cooperation within your business or organization. At Habitat for Humanity, we are all about families, and that includes our volunteers! You are welcome to serve together, but please know that we cannot allow volunteers under the age of 16 on a construction site for safety and legal reasons.

Construction Volunteer FAQs

Q: When Can I volunteer?
A: We typically build on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30am-12:30pm.

Q: Do I need to bring my own tools?
A: We have a limited number of tools available, so if you can bring your own, please do. Make sure your tools are labeled with your name so they don't get lost. Please avoid bringing any modified tools on-site.

Q: I have no construction skills. Can I volunteer?
A: Of course! We have plenty of skilled volunteers to teach you the ropes! Or, if you would rather avoid typical construction tasks, we can always use people to provide meals and help keep the build site clean!

Q: Will we still work in bad weather?
A: We like to work rain or shine.However, some extreme weather conditions keep us off the job site for safety purposes. If you think your volunteer day may be canceled, please call our office at 330-337-1003.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Safety is first priority, so please wear long pants, closed toed shoes and any protective eye or head wear that might be necessary for your task.

Every Construction Volunteer must complete 4 Steps to Safety Training before volunteering on-site.

Step 1: Watch this short video about construction site safety
Step 2: Take this safety quiz as proof that you have watched our video.
Step 3: Fill out a waiver if you are 18 or older OR a minor waiver if you are 16 or 17.
Step 4: Print out and turn in your safety quiz and waiver at the job site!
